First Mennonite Church of Paso Robles is a member congregation of Mennonite Church USA and a member congregation of the Pacific Southwest Mennonite Conference.
This is our older building after it was moved to Park Street. It is our current location.
Our history
When Mennonite families from Germany, Russia, and other parts of the United States settled west of Paso Robles, they began gathering for Sunday worship in their homes. As the community grew, they built a church near Chimney Rock at San Marcos Ranch around 1898.
Over time, the congregation divided due to distance and cultural differences. One group organized in Paso Robles in 1903, while another formed in San Marcos in 1904. In 1911, the San Marcos congregation moved to Vineyard Drive and Dover Canyon Road, becoming known as the Willow Creek Church.
In January 1967, a fire destroyed the Willow Creek Church building. The site is now home to the Willow Creek Mennonite Cemetery. After the fire, the two congregations reunited at the Paso Robles Church.
Though these congregations were never large, their presence and impact in the community continue today. We pray to carry that legacy forward—serving God and our community, not in our own strength, but in the Lord’s.
